August 2026 Update: Brays Bayou Trail Access & Advocacy
Our neighborhood deserves safe, direct, and reliable access to the Brays Bayou Trail—and TXDOT has reopened the trail.
Karina went to ask TXDOT at a TCP meeting at HGAC and TXDOT answered! We were able to meet with TXDOT and they promissed to re-open the trail by the end of July and on July 31st they did!
The Brays Bayou Trail remained inaccessible due to ongoing Spur 5 construction. Originally, TXDOT estimated a reopening by Spring 2025, then Spring 2026, then Summer of 2026. The trail had been closed due to construction since 2024 approx. 2 years.
The trail is finally open. We have sent an email requesting TXDOT and HPB to remove the very confusing and now not needed DETOUR signs. A big thanks to our local resident and cyclist Adam who has been keeping us informed on our trail condititions.

Our Position on Spur 5
The Fonde Civic Club is opposed to the expansion of Spur 5 as it threatens the safety, livability, and character of our neighborhood. However, if the project moves forward, we are actively advocating for essential community protections and enhancements to be included:
Protected pedestrian crossings
Reduced number of lanes to calm traffic
METRO bus lines and dedicated bike lanes
Sound barriers to reduce increased noise pollution
Improved drainage to prevent neighborhood flooding
Landscaping and shade trees to restore comfort and beauty to the area
These elements are not optional—they are necessary to ensure the project respects the people who live here.
