We Did It: The Fonde Park Playground is Open!

Since 2023, Fonde Civic Club and Friends of Fonde Park (est.7/24) worked hard, alongside our community, to get a playground update for Fonde Park. We asked our community to share what upgrades they wanted to see, and your input mattered. Thanks to years of persistent advocacy, we are thrilled to share a true community win: the Houston Parks and Recreation Department (HPARD) completed the playground renovation, and we celebrated the reopening together on July 21, 2026.

At the Summer 2024 meeting, the Parks Department shared a few examples of playgrounds that could work within our existing playground footprint, and promised more opportunities for community input.

In February 2025, the Parks Department hosted a meeting to present their plan for the park. Renditions of that plan can be found below.

The plan that was built did not include everything we had hoped for, and we did not get all the additional opportunities for community input that were promised. Even so, this renovation reflects years of collaborative advocacy by residents, civic leaders, and organizations who refused to let our community's needs go unheard, and we are proud to celebrate it with you.

Now, our attention turns to what's next: the CIP Master Plan for Fonde Park. This is a bigger vision for the park's future, and it will need your voice. We will keep advocating for the equipment and input opportunities we were promised, and we need more community input to make the Master Plan reflect what our neighborhood truly wants.
